very cute concept to show glimpses of a burgeoning relationship between the rosfield brothers before the tragedy at phoenix gate. enjoyed joshua's innocent, naïve depiction in both fics as well as the darker twist to clive's love. while standing great on their own, it is sad that nymnixe never wrote more for this series.
His younger brother buries his face against his shoulder and hiccups a cry. While he can’t make it right, he can try to make Joshua forget about all of the bad feelings plaguing his mind.
“You’ve had such a difficult evening, haven’t you?” Clive noses his cheek affectionately, murmuring low in his ear. “Joshua, let me love on you tonight.”

Summary
Joshua wants to know— does Clive still feel the same way, after all of the time?
It’s a cool, rainy evening at the hideaway. Rolling grey clouds just barely obscure the eerie rose-colored sky, casting the illusion of nightfall over the peaceful sanctuary.
The thin wooden boards don’t do much to retain the heat, thus Joshua Rosfield has found himself resorting to certain other means for keeping warm.

i finally had the opportunity to write up my thoughts for this classic roscest fic, and i can say, it does not disappoint. it heavily leans into common romantic tropes and clichés but in the best possible way. not to mention, the characterization of joshua is superb and feels easily indistinguisable with his in-game personality, particularly his forwardness with his emotions and his youthful characteristics masked by a veil of confidence. a perfect fic to scratch the itch of romantic, smutty roscest.
Clive hesitates, his words trapped in his throat. Surely he must remember how it felt, yet he still seems as if he’s struggling to process what his younger brother is asking of him. “I’m your Shield. I’m supposed to protect you.”
“Then protect me, Clive.”

Summary
Clive could have sighed—really, this was his fault.
He had started too early, and spoiled Joshua too much. Spoiled rotten his brother was, content to lie back as pleasure was inevitably given to him, as was his right.Clive found he did not mind.

Bookmarker's Notes
i now realize that i have really underestimated the potential for the concept of archduke joshua and shield of rosaria clive. there is something that is so very appealing when a servant (for a lack of a better term) dominates his lord, and it's even more potent with the rosfield brothers. really enjoyed the characterizations here and the playful banter, but that's to be expected when reading vercure's work.
“I want you,” Joshua says, blunt and with heat.
“You have me, Brother.”
“No,” Joshua murmurs, and his fingers find their way to Clive’s breeches, trailing the hard outline of his brother’s cock before they find their way to his laces. “I want you.”

“I’ll need at least a week to prepare the remedy. The Curesebreakers can scout for the beasts that are needed for ingredients. In the meantime,” Tarja cocked her head at Clive. “You take care of him.” As if Joshua would do anything else.
“Take care of me?” Clive groused. He leaned his arms back on the sickbed where he sat, pushing his tail aside when he accidentally sat his hand on it. “I feel fine.”
“Clive,” Tarja laughed flatly. “You’ve got fuzzy ears coming out of your head.”

this is such a fun roscest fic! perfect for some feel good vibes between them. as much as i love the emotional heavy hitters, i cannot deny that fluff just makes warm, cozy feelings bubble in the chest. need more wolf man clive in the world. i love the range vercure has with theming in their fic, must revisit this one when mood is low.
“Canine behavior, or such. Don’t try to fight it. Give in to your impulses, and let your brother pet you,” Joshua smiled.
Clive looked up to him, a losing battle in his eyes. “Give in to my impulses, hm?”

Summary
The sun beats down upon him, a blue sky blankets the firmament, and Clive leans against fencing, trying not to make his eavesdropping so obvious.
"Do you think he bites?" A woman says in a hushed whisper, the subdued, airy tone of idle gossip. Clive can tell Joshua too has heard, his eyes flickering up from his book.
"Who, the hound?” The other woman leans in even closer, her cheeky tone electing a giggle from her companion. “Or the master?"
“Oh,” Joshua says, leaning in close to Clive, mischief on his tongue. “The master, most definitely.”

a lovely little snippet set in the rising tide dlc based on dialogue found within the village area. featuring a playful, somewhat shameless joshua teasing clive about his penchant for love bites. vercure perfectly captures the nuance of pride and mild embarrassment in clive's reactions.

Snow decorates Rosalith castle on a winter morning—to Joshua’s delight, and Clive’s indifference. He’d much rather stay in bed.

what a sweet little fic for the winter season. a short and simple, fluffy scene set before the night of flames. it is so cathartic to see the boys enjoying themselves, kids just getting to be kids. vercure's writing continues to be such a joy to read.
Clive jolts up, and whips his head around to see his brother sat on his bed, one arm full of snow and the other holding a handful, just slightly melted from Clive’s body heat.
“Joshua,” Clive rasps, voice full of betrayal.
“You’re awake! Let’s go outside.”

Summary
The maid smiles to herself as she approaches her lord’s chambers, the door slightly ajar, ready to see the pair most likely holding each other in sleep. So inseparable, they are. She had never seen two brothers so close.
She is just about to gently rap her knuckles at the door for entry, quietly, lest she wake them if they were asleep, when a soft sound stops her. There is a sigh, or perhaps a groan was more apt, maybe in pain—or not. Gentle words are spoken, too quiet to hear. A slick, shifting sound. Concerned, she peeks through the door.

outsider pov works so well for a ship so scandalous as clive/joshua, and it was a delight to see this fic set before the fall of phoenix gate. the praise kink is so good, especially when contrasted with the maid’s horror. very impressed that this is the creator’s first work.
“Shh,” Clive shushes to Joshua. “We wouldn’t want anyone to know.” Clive says, to her.
The maid can barely hear his words over the pounding of her blood in her ears, and yet the slick sound of the elder brother’s ministations ring clear as a bell.”

Summary
Joshua doesn’t like to be in the crypts. They are so different from the rest of the castle, from his home. They are dark, musty and suffocating, and make him feel even smaller than he is. Clive likes them even less—he would not enter them, even if Joshua asked. There were not many things Clive denied Joshua, but this was one. Perhaps he was afraid. Joshua can’t afford himself fear—this was to be his home, after all.

a very insightful look into young joshua’s mind as he comes to terms with being the dominant of the phoenix and all that it entails. the idea of there being a tomb with past leaders falling to the curse should have been in game. vercure does it once again with their musings, the characterization is simply lovely.
“That’s not what I wanted to show you.” Joshua turns, and gestures to his future home—to his tomb.
“This one's for me.”

“Would you have mine?” Clive blurts out the sudden thought.
“Have—you want me to take your earring?” Joshua looks up again from pages of thick vellum, surprise on his face.
“Yes.”
His face pinches, and his voice is soft. “But, it’s yours. It’s been with you all these years.”
“It would make me happy, to see you wearing it.” He smiles at that, and Clive knows he’ll say yes.Bookmarked by faelyna

loved to see a fic which addresses joshua’s missing earring. it’s short and sweet, a fluff scenario that still manages to carry emotional weight. both brothers have such good characterization here.
”Silently Clive asks the question, saying without words like he often could only with Joshua.
Joshua gives him a little smile, and cups his hand over Clive’s. “Lost on that night, I’m afraid,” he says, and there’s an ache in Clive’s chest.”

Summary
At the end of all things, Joshua finds Clive on the shore.
Now, there is no Duchy, no Undying. The Phoenix, all eikons and magic, snuffed out of the world. No longer are there gods and monsters—just his brother, his gift in his arms.
Joshua would stay with him, always. Together, never to be parted again—for that was always his chosen path.

the way emotion is conveyed in this piece is astounding. i had tears in my eyes from the start with the flashback scene placed which really set the tone for what was to come. i knew i would be sad, but i didn’t expect to ugly cry.
”Joshua's impetus lay in his arms, the one thing worthy of protecting left to be worn away by the tide.

i am speechless. the contrast in clive and joshua’s perceptions of what happens is astounding. the gorgeous prose really heightens the contents of this set. it is a really gutting twist to the story’s end, but somehow it ends up so heartwarming at the same time. vercure is such a brilliant author, i bow down.
”Clive sighs, so full of love he’s sick with it, and presses a chaste kiss to his brother’s slicked lips.
“I love you. I love you. I want to spend my life with you.”

Summary
Clive and Joshua’s relationship— as it blossoms from brothers into something more.
“You needn’t follow me, when I’ll come to you. Always.” Clive could find the time—he would carve it out if he must. "Even if not right away, your big brother will always come back to you, ever at your side." He hesitates for just a beat, before placing a dry, chaste kiss to the heated skin of Joshua's forehead.
Settled into his bed and secure in Clive's embrace, his brother's light touches do much to soothe the deep ache of loneliness and discontent gnawing at Joshua's stomach. They’re comforting—coaxing him to speak his mind, a luxury not meant for a boy whose future is predestined. There’s a warmth inside his brother, a flame which matches his own, smoldering and tempered now, lulling him into the quiet solace of his own personal eden. He feels it igniting in his chest as supple lips press against his forehead, his brother’s low voice reverberating against his skin.

i have never seen a fic that i’m more eager to receive updates on. i cannot believe this is just chapter one, and i’ve already re-read it three times. both authors have such excellent reads on clive and joshua, and their deep understanding of the characters really shows their love of the source material.
“Clive leans in to steal what isn’t his to take, but has been so graciously given.
And so too does Joshua give in, lips sweetly parted by Clive’s prying tongue which slips between them with ease.”
