Joel hadn’t prayed in well over a decade. In fact, the last time he’d spoken to God was when his daughter was bleeding out in his arms. He’d begged him not to take her, and God had laughed in his face. Well, this time he wasn’t begging. He was going to find Ellie, and he swore to himself that this time would be different. That this time, his little girl would be alright.
Or, Joel finds Ellie in the snow and realizes that his heart can still break in so many different ways.

The earnestness startled her momentarily, and she lifted the cigarette to her lips to calm her nerves back down.
"I wouldn't worry about it, man," she finally responded. She broke his gaze and returned to the coffee table to drop her cigarette butt into the empty peach can. She laid back down on the couch and massaged her temples.

The events of TLOU if Ellie had aged out of military school before Marlene found out about her immunity. Joel and Tess are hired to smuggle a 19 year old Ellie out of Boston, after she's already been hiding her immunity for five years.
TL;DR: TLOU1 but with a TLOU2 aged Ellie, because I'm in love with the potential for that dynamic.

Ellie was shivering.
She was shivering, and it had nothing to do with the cold. Joel held her close to his side as he led her through the deep snow, his coat tucked around her as tightly as it could be, but he could still feel her trembling and hear the faint whimpers accompanying her every breath. At this point she was leaning most of her weight on him, barely raising her feet as she shuffled through the snow, and he was starting to consider just scooping her up in his arms and carrying her, his injury be damned. His arm instinctively tightened around her shoulders at the thought she could simply drop at any given moment, her knees buckling under her.
He didn't even want to think about what might have happened to her.

Not just due to new rules, new people, and a new way of living- but because of an overwhelming sense of fear and anger that has been following Ellie since their journey concluded. Joel joining patrol duty only exacerbates her feelings, causing a series of unfortunate issues in Jackson for the two of them.
TLDR: Ellie is suffering with the aftermath of their traumatic journey- the events with David and Joel's near death experience- lashing out and putting herself at risk. Joel is worried sick and has to save her from herself while they both navigate changes in their lives.
