    There are cobwebs in his mind. Sludge and tar and molasses. A graveyard of teethbones and ash, sand on his tongue, bittersweet saltiness on his lips.

    "Tsukasa-kun." Rui's voice resurfaces him from the shade, and he blinks at the sun in his eyes, the faint creases in his uniform from where it looked like he had clutched at his chest and squeezed. "Slow steps. Follow me."

    "Follow me," he echoes tonelessly. The words comes out flat, if a little lost. Rui squeezes their hands together as an unspoken reminder, a message, a promise: I'm here.

    There is safety in that, a quiet sort of assurance he isn't sure when he grew used to trusting. He falls then, but he falls with the knowledge that the people he loves will be there to catch him at the bottom of the gaping chasm.

    or: for tenma tsukasa, there are both good days and bad days. on the bad days, his friends are there to help him through the worst of it.

    He keeps slipping up in practice.

    They were doing a final rehearsal for their show tomorrow; one they all have memorized by this point, a showing of the first show they did together. Of course, it had updates and wild new additions added thanks to Rui’s inventions, but nothing too off course for them. He… shouldn't be having any issues at all.

    But he can't help but relax doing familiar steps and lines, can’t help when his mind conjures up a fun spinoff, cant help when he starts mumbling as soon as they finish a scene–

    He snaps himself back as soon as he realizes it's happening.

    But no matter how many times he tries to ground himself, he just keeps slipping.
