Summary
Not even Teruko was sure why she still bothered to try. The commonplace definition of insanity, though admittedly unsupported by any recognized form of psychiatric science, went as follows: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting something to change. Nothing in Teruko’s life ever changed besides the scenery, and even if it did—well. Successfully stopping an active murder plot in progress seemed about as far from usual as things could get, and if there was one good thing that could be said about her future, it was that it was predictable: nothing but foregone conclusions the entire way down.
“What do you need me to do?” she asked.
Or: In the wake of the second trial, rumor has it David’s acting weird—moreso than usual. Teruko pieces things together as best she can.
