This isn’t how he had imagined it. He’d imagined it lots of ways, but most vividly, he’d imagined it as something intimate – his vessel’s blood indelibly on Dean’s hands. Dean – an angrier crueller Dean, in theory, though the difference doesn’t seem to mean much – being brought back to himself by the shock of it. The Mark’s effect lessened – countless people protected – by the reality of Dean landing a killing blow against Cas. And maybe Dean wouldn’t quite be aware how willingly the gift had been given, but it would stay with him all the same. Cas’s devotion would be immortalised by the effect it had on Dean, and even if Cas knew he wouldn’t be around to see it, he would feel it in that final moment, as in Dean’s hand his own angel blade went home, the confirmation…

Dean is jumpy as shit. Why one possibly Icelandic beep-boop specialist has him on edge while Mick Jagger’s own vocal coach barely got his heart rate over 55bpm is a goddamn mystery. Maybe it’s the harp solos from that sample track; maybe Dean’s nervous that this is his last shot and if this guy can’t save Dean from filling out the back end of his contract with “Best Of” and “Live In Concert” compilations he might as well walk into the fucking sea.

Eight days after Cas comes back from The Empty, Dean and Cas make the decision to date, for one month. One month only.
Of course, in another world Castiel can imagine Dean loving the post, were he not involved. He would flag Castiel down sitting at the kitchen table or perhaps one of the couches, and he would say something like, “Hey, Cas, listen to this. Am I the asshole. Listen.” Dean would clear his throat then continue, reading from his phone, “I, 4.543 billion years old, male, recently broke up with my boyfriend, 42 years old, male. We had dated exactly one month, which we agreed to when we started the relationship. The relationship was quite good, as far as I’m aware, and lasted 30 full days. I broke up with him on day 30, as agreed. Now he is angry at me. I have to assume that this is because I broke up with him. Reddit dot com, am I the asshole for breaking up with him, even though we did agree to a month-long relationship?”

He’s back.
The witch tries to squirm away from her, so Meg just tightens her thighs around his ribcage and squeezes his throat once in warning.
“Hold on, baby, it’s hard typing with one hand,” Meg tuts at him. With the other she texts a quick, How? Where?
There’s a gurgling sound, and Meg realizes she’s been steadily increasing too much pressure on the guy’s lungs. Bad etiquette. She mutters a distracted apology, too focused on Dean’s goddamn typing dots popping up and disappearing.
Eventually she receives back, Bunker. Thought you should know.meg lives, and then cas lives again too (with a side of destiel)
