“When was the last time you saw him touching them? Or them touching him?” he asks and Nie Huaisang shrinks in on himself. “When was the last time they were over at your place? When was the last time you saw Mingjue being happy with them?” Jiang Cheng relentlessly goes on, but it seems like Nie Huaisang doesn’t have an answer to any of his questions.
“You’re only saying all of that because you’re in love with him yourself,” Nie Huaisang finally snaps back when Jiang Cheng’s accusing stare becomes too much and Jiang Cheng sighs.
“Bullshit. I’m saying this because he’s my friend. If he would be happy in that relationship, that would be fine with me,” Jiang Cheng tells him. “I just want to see him happy again,” he finishes, much softer at the end.
Nie Mingjue has looked perfectly happy with only Lan Xichen before and even though Jiang Cheng had been in love with him back then as well, he was never jealous or begrudged him his relationship, because it so clearly made Nie Mingjue happy.
But ever since Jin Guangyao got added to that mix, it seems he’s leeching the happiness right out of Nie Mingjue.

Summary
Jiang Cheng used to come over for dinner a lot more often—before Nie Mingjue realized his attraction to him and distanced himself because of it—and Nie Mingjue vows to invite him over more regularly.
They are friends first, after all, and Jiang Cheng shouldn’t have to suffer more than he clearly already does, for whatever reason.
Nie Mingjue waits until they are done with their food, before he puts his glass down and very seriously asks “Jiang Cheng, what’s wrong?”
He expected a lot of reactions; screaming, was one of them, as well as Jiang Cheng storming out. What Nie Mingjue did not expect was for Jiang Cheng to break down into tears immediately.
“Shit,” Nie Mingjue mutters, as he rounds the table and pulls Jiang Cheng into his arms.

It feels, sometimes, like Jiang Cheng's waiting to have a bad day so he has an excuse.
It’s a Tuesday and Jiang Cheng finds himself huddled under the portico in front of Nie Mingjue’s impressive double-doors, wondering what the fuck he’s doing with his life. He’s drenched to the bone, all of his formal clothes sticking to all of his skin, waiting for someone to answer the door before he freezes to death.
Or maybe he’ll just freeze to death! Maybe that’s the option at play here. Considering how the rest of his night is going, he doesn’t think it’d actually be all that surprising.
