Summary
It took time, but Dean has gotten used to being alone. He knows enough good people and places in Ucora to get by. He is more than used to the coldness of his cottage. With a nice open space where he can sit by the fire in the winter, admiring the pieces that hang on his walls, from paintings to wood and metal sculptures. His little kitchen. The dining table. The stairs that lead to his room and storage room.
It’s not too much, but he is fortunate to have a nice enough space. He has repetition. He has all the time and ale in the world to forget about his nightmares and get by.
That makes change, however big or small, extremely noticeable.
A loud crash on his roof, for example, that interrupts his damn nice sleep after struggling to properly close up shop and protect all his materials in a freakin’ storm, definitely counts as change.

The root of the whole thing was this: Zoro had a big, fat stupid crush of Sanji that had been going on for the better part of two years. It was just the kind of bullshit Zoro didn't need in his life, but who’d have thought Sanji from goddamn home economics class could kick like a mule with a black belt? Zoro hadn’t, not until he had gotten into an argument with the blonde over how to properly clean the school's dented, shitty frying pan. He’d called the guy a priss, and the next thing he knew he was blinking up at the ceiling with a bruise the size of a baseball and a newfound understanding of teenage hormones.

“Oh, Zoro!” Usopp chirps at his boyfriend, holding in a flinch at how false and cheery his voice sounds. “I didn’t hear you come in, sorry.” He reaches up with both hands, practiced at angling them just right to wrap around wide shoulders that like to shove into his space whenever the swordsman leans in for a kiss.
But there’s no embrace, only a quirked eyebrow and the slightest of frowns as the hand on Usopp’s back slowly moves down. “What’s wrong?” Zoro questions.
