Written for this prompt on the Avengers kinkmeme:
A 'Tony gets his arc reactor forcefully removed' story, because that's never been done before, amirite?
I'd like to see one of the Avengers casually removing the arc reactor for something (presumably something important enough to do so without asking, but definitely not important enough that they'd consider risking someone's life for it). Because none of them were ever told what it really was. They assume it's just a power source for the suit.
Tony, though, honestly thinks they all do know what it's for, and thus is horrified and betrayed. And they all learn the hard way just what it is as he lays there dying by their hand (and then fix him in the nick of time, of course).
Bonuses:
- Much comforting afterward.
- He's suited up at the time. And so they take even longer to realize something's wrong, since him collapsing when he's wearing a suit they just deactivated is not particularly concerning.
- Steve is the one who does the removing.Pretty much does what it says on the tin.

"So alot of people also seem to think Tony is a secret cuddler and reading all those prompt has got me in the mood to read a five times thing where Tony comes crawling to his teammates.
I know there is something like that already, but I want something a little different. I'm hoping for something like Tony has a nightmare he can't shake, and usually he drinks his problems away or works the night away but he promised his team he wouldn't do that as much, so he goes to Steve or Thor's bed. etc."
Being me, I took that and wrote all the hurt comfort, with a side of fluff. I'll post it chapter by chapter here as it needs a little cleaning up, but I should manage a chapter a day!

There are obvious downsides to being the only member of the Avengers who is not a super soldier, a god, or a super assassin, and does not Hulk out when aggravated.
The most obvious one is that when villains want bait, they've got a go-to guy.Tony already knew Mondays sucked. He did not need his opinion reinforced this way.
