A look of confusion covered Shadow Milk’s face, stained with a tinge of hope. He listened to the sound of Black Sapphire and Candy Apple yelling in the background, trying to distract himself from the warmth of the sun shining in front of him.
He should have immediately said no. “Curse you,” he’d have said. “Liar.” But he didn’t, because Pure Vanilla’s warmth was akin to freezer burn, coming to a cookie that hadn’t felt anything warm, anything compassionate, in so, so long. Just once, maybe, he could accept a helpful hand. Just once, he could let Pure Vanilla in. What could he lose, if he didn’t have anything to begin with? So in a moment of weakness, he choked out:
“…. Friend?”

Summary

The continued rapping of knuckles against wood startled the Recluse out of his murky thoughts, and he scowled despite himself, the persistent loudness of the knocking only worsening the aching of his mind.
He reached out, the doorknob providing a temporarily soothing relief of coolness to his feverish dough, and then he flung the door open.
As he’d suspected. There stood the Sage of Truth, the only cookie dumb enough to bother the Recluse in his own abode.
Upon seeing the other, the blueberry cookie’s grin grew incredibly wide, and before the Recluse could even blink, the Sage had thrown his arms around his neck, pulling him into an unwilling hug.

[This one shot takes place in the context of a time travel PureFount AU that I'm currently working on writing out, so all headcanons expressed come from the perspective of said AU. Any extra context from that AU that I believe is necessary to understand the writings here is listed in the beginning notes! I tried writing it here originally, but ran out of characters... lol]
