The only one who didn't pretend to be kind was the healer hired by his sister to treat him after a run in with another mercenary. She worked quietly, with complete disinterest in walking on egg shells around the once-believed demigod, instead all she saw was a man and a purse full of drachmae for her work. Alexios found himself drawn to her house more often than not, looking for excuses to patron her. Why? He wasn't sure, but here he was.

She is unique in a way that the incredulous queen finds intriguing. She has an uncanny ability to remain completely unphased despite her circumstances, including in the face of Aegon's debauchery.
Aegon doesn't need a handler. He has his drunkenness and his whoring completely under control. After he marries Helaena and his mother places the crown on his head, she says he has to clean up his act. It quickly becomes Cassia's job as his personal attendant is to make sure he's on time to meetings, he's tidy enough to be presentable, and his mood isn't so sour that he inspires a coup before his third year as king is over. Her unrelenting aloofness frustrates him as much as it intrigues him and he wants nothing more than to break her.
Cassia has a secret. One that she has never told to anyone, one that she has never admitted to herself. She hides it behind a veil of stony features.
Aegon wants to know what's beneath her impenetrable defenses, but she is determined to remain unknown.

Summary
This fic is heavily inspired by the infamous 'Nothing' scene with Aegon and Alicent. Her cold words and the way she lashes out really bothered me and I felt a strong need to stand up for him, protect, and console him. So that's really what this whole fic is about. Enjoy!
Also went with a lot of musical vibing for this story. I started off listening to Collective Soul's Heavy , because I imagine it as Aegon's state of mind in the opening scene towards everyone and everything happening. And by the end we transition into Starset's Last to Fall - and the title of the fic. I know, I'm a sappy mf. But the title actually works really well for his story too..
