Summary
The stall vendor sees right through him as soon as he begins to stammer through the words une pain d'épices s’il vous plait, asking him what he wants in thick English instead, which Mark bashfully responds to for both their sakes. As it turns out, Renjun was close enough to have heard the whole thing, laughing at him when Mark arrives back with the little paper bag containing three slices of ginger loaf. He thanks him anyway, and Mark thinks he looks very beautiful, all bright eyes and warm light bouncing from his face, tiny snowflakes caught in the wisps of his hair.
“Pretty,” Mark says quietly, cupping Renjun’s face with one gentle hand so that he’ll tilt his chin Mark’s way again, smile at him and fill his chest with warmth in all the places the mulled wine couldn’t reach. “I love you so much.”

Summary
“It doesn’t have to be that perfect,” video Chenle says, voice more subdued than his usual sunny camera disposition. “Really, none of these date night foods have to be perfect. The care you put into your cooking is what makes the final dish taste good. My boyfriend has better knife skills than me anyway.” He says the last part with a laugh.
There’s a few extra seconds of Chenle explaining the kimchi soup base, but Jaemin can’t help replaying the “my boyfriend has better knife skills than me” part. It’s innocuous, yet it makes his heart skip a beat.
Then, Jaemin exits full screen and gets an eyeful of the caption.

“No,” Renjun clarifies. “We just get dinner alone twice a week, always see new movies together, text each other good morning and goodnight on nights when he doesn’t stay over, he tells me I’m the cutest person he knows, he wants me to meet his parents, we’ve named our future kids together, and sometimes he writes poems for me. But, no. We’re not dating.”
Yangyang nods. “Oh. Sure. Okay.”
“And I don’t want to date,” Renjun clarifies, in case his tone reveals otherwise. “I’m so happy to have such a great friend.”

Summary
When Mark puts his arm around him now, it feels different. When Mark holds him now, it feels like it means something more than what it used to–it used to mean nothing. Sometimes, Renjun feels like he’s allowed to let it mean something but he bites it down, tries not to let it get the better of him. He reminds himself that he spent years just to numb down the gnawing pain in his chest every time he looked at Mark and Mark pretended not to notice him.

“I asked Mark to kill someone for me. And then, of course, I asked someone to kill him. You know how it goes.”
“What do you need me for?”
“Well, Mark got away. And he took something I want. So I need you to find him.”
“Okay.”
“And kill him.”
Donghyuck can’t say he didn’t expect this. Donghyuck can’t say he hasn’t been waiting for someone to use his closeness to Mark Lee to finally end his reign. He’s not surprised Jaemin would be the first person to get that bold.
“Can you do it?” Jaemin asks, brushing some of Donghyuck’s hair back. “Or do I need to find someone else?”
Donghyuck reflexively grabs Jaemin’s wrist, forcing his hand away. Jaemin raises an eyebrow at him, smirking with a forgone conclusion.
“No,” Donghyuck decides, humiliatingly. “I can do it.”
Jaemin steps closer to him, pressing himself up against Donghyuck completely. “Good,” he whispers against Donghyuck’s lips, and Donghyuck feels his jaw open despite himself, wanting nothing more than-
“Because I own you, Hyuckie.”
Donghyuck wants nothing more than to kill Jaemin with his bare hands.

Summary
Jaemin got drafted fifteenth overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs, grinning so wildly that it almost cracked his face in two as the general manager shook his hand, slipping that ugly blue and white jersey over his perfect head. Cameras flashed, the dark blue contrasted terribly with his mess of pink hair, and that had been that. Jaemin was officially out of reach, out of Chenle’s life forever.
Eight thousand kilometers away, Chenle had watched on a tiny phone screen in the privacy of his room, burrowed into one of Jaemin’s old sweatshirts—stolen on one of their late night adventures—and cried.

Or, Chenle is perfectly fine (read: so unbelievably not fine at all) playing college hockey two years after kissing Jaemin on the night that Jaemin left him for the NHL. Mark tucks his arms behind his head and stares up at the sparkling night sky. This would be better if he wasn’t alone. It’d be better with two bottles of a beer he’s never heard of and a warm body stretched out beside him. They could zip their sleeping bags together into one mega-sleeping bag and let their fingers brush together. They could talk about how Mark feels like he could tip his head back and slip into the stars like a bath.
