“You alright, Sergeant?” Ghost asks when Soap finds him in the base kitchen at three am, making tea. “Look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
It’s the first time they’re meeting like this. Off duty, in civvies. Alone.
The water starts boiling. Ghost tilts his head, prompts, “MacTavish?”
Alright, Soap wants to say. “You ever dream of me?” comes out instead.

Summary
Ghost knew it the instant he saw the kid. Fresh-faced and cheeks as-yet untouched by a razor. Small, though he works hard enough to make up for it, excels through sheer bloody force of will.
He should speak up, get someone looking at his file and double check. The boy will be kicked out when they find the same truth Ghost feels in his gut, coiling and hot. Not his fault he's got a nose for it. Shark smelling blood in the water.
Soap gets into SAS selection at 16 and finds himself a mentor.
