Atsuya takes the bottle. It’s nothing outrageous: a fairly popular microbrew. It’s respectable to a degree both Atsuya and his convenience mart beer are not. “Don’t know if I’d call it fair.”
“Oh, no,” Higuruma says, sounding deathly serious despite his airy tone. “Don’t start keeping score, I’m the type who can’t call a draw so we can stop.”

It was a fitting locale because Higuruma constantly did this thing where he’d get mad and sulk in the bathtub for hours whenever he lost an argument, and also because he was being a huge baby.

At first it’s hard to say what plagues Hiromi the most: the tickle of the plaster dust in his nose and throat or the blaring klaxon of the system alarm which threatens to explode his eardrums; but as the room—his office—blurs and comes back into focus again, he reaches a conclusion:
At least he can turn the damn alarm off. That’s one point in its favor.
“Deafen alarm!” Hiromi shouts.
Another bit of plaster falls from the ceiling and Hiromi coughs from the ensuing cloud of dust. He rolls onto his side, putting himself into the Recovery Position in accordance with the Foundation Emergency Handbook: Section 2, Paragraph 4(a), and begins to Assess.
[OR: Higuruma Hiromi is the Site Director of Nihon Containment and Preservation Site 7. Unfortunately for him, it's about to be a very, very bad day.]
