Summary
Olrox was lost to his homeland, lost wandering in a land he scarcely knew, but Sioketa didn't seem to mind that he didn't belong, delicately combing through his hair and sowing life into his soul all the same.
Olrox and Sioketa meet again in autumn with a better understanding of what they want, finding slivers of home in each other.
But the boots of war are lined up, waiting for the first shot to ring out.

Summary
In the hoofprints and faraway glimpses of deer, upon the geometric backs of turtles and among the plentiful fish and waterfowl, in the verdant woods spilling with nuts and fruits and flowers, in the warm summer breeze, he could almost see Sioketa, could almost touch him, nearly tasting him in bitter fox grapes.
Olrox has left Stockbridge, while Sioketa remains, both keeping a promise of reuniting in a year. Brief snapshots into the seasons until then.

Summary
In the newborn sunlight, his almond eyes reminded Olrox of xocolātl, and an unexpected swell of homesickness rose in his still heart and subsided just as quickly. But an emptiness lingered, as if his heart were carried away in its wave, and it left him wanting to chase after that longing.
“Somehow,” Sioketa said, “although I don't know you, I sense you are the only one who truly does understand.”
Olrox winds up near the Mahican praying town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, chasing an epidemic of disease and disappearances that reeks of vampiric involvement.
Sioketa, a disillusioned Mahiikaniiw man fighting to preserve his culture within the theater of colonialism, owes Olrox a favor.
