They'd been traveling for days, sand filling their shoes and the sun beating down on their heads. With empty stomachs and parched throats, it was a relief to see buildings dotting the horizon, and Wolfwood had felt the slump in his shoulders straighten out just a bit as Vash whooped. It was supposed to be a quick stop in a tavern for some grub and a pint. Hell, he'd even offered to pay for the first round—feeling generous once he wasn't sweating through his clothes.
Should have known it would lead to trouble.
