"You will not die, Lucy Gray," Smiley told her, nervously, taking her in his arms as he stood up. He saw her clutching her orange shawl tightly. Her eyes were closed and her face abandoned on his chest, and she continued in her delirium.

“I can't come back. I can't” she stammered, growing more and more agitated "He will find me. I will never be free. I will never be alive. Will you let me die in his arms?" Smiley noticed only then that one foot had no shoe, and one ankle was swollen and a worrying bluish color. The dark clouds in the sky thundered again "Coryo... Coryo... Do you hate me now?
