Summary
“You said to Francis, the night of your attack, what happened to John Ross at Fury Beach could happen to him, too.” Thomas pulls his attention from the hearth and lets it rest on James Fitzjames. This James is sharp in all the wrong places. “I've had a chance to read Ross's memoir and I found nothing self-critical there,” James Fitzjames continues. “Do you refute the truth of his account?”
Thomas laughs. “Someone's going to have to think of a new kind of memoir, Sir, if truth is what you're after.”

Summary
“Come with us.”
“James-"
“Come with me and Ann. Live with us. Forget about the passage. Come with us.” James’ grasp tightened on Francis' hand. “We will be moving into a bigger house. The Abbey, it’s called. It is so peaceful there. We will live a quiet life, Frank. Come with me.” If only he had a ring. “We will fill that house with so much warmth. Come with me.”
***
Finally home from a failed rescue expedition, James tries to settle into a quiet life in the Abbey at Aston Abbotts.
His young daughter, however, is certain there is a ghost haunting the garden. -

Summary
"James Fitzjames does not know where to look first.
The shiny, soft bear fur. The shining sword clasped in a strong hand. The sharp jaw. The glamorous curls. The dark eyes. It is almost overwhelming. He idly rubs his sweating palm against his navy blue trousers. His gaze settles on the hands."
