The two of them pull away from each other again and his mum smiles proudly, patting his cheek gently. “I’ll leave you to it then,” she assures him, kissing him quickly on the cheek and beginning to walk to the stairs.
“I love you!” Aeon calls out again as she begins to descend. She blows him an exaggerated kiss in return and then, all of a sudden, he’s alone. Despite his nerves, he knows there’s no time like the present to get the scary thing over and done with so, taking a deep breath to try and calm himself down, he wipes his tears away with his sleeve, slots his key into the lock and pushes open the door.

He’s used to his packmates coming into his room and watching him game, sitting back against his headboard or settling down on the floor just to give him some company. But Cirrus isn’t much of a gamer. In fact, Rain isn’t sure he’s ever seen her play anything more than monopoly or solitaire. But when the ghoulette glides up behind him and settles behind his hair, letting her hands run over the front of his bare shoulders in slow, massaging motions, he furrows his brow and looks up and behind him at her, sliding one side of his headphones off of his pointed ear.
“Do you need something?”
The look she gives him is hard to read, especially when she gives him a small smile. It’s warm. Innocent. But it doesn’t match her eyes. And that’s how Rain knows that something is up.
