Summary
The life of a Recruiter weighs only slightly heavier than that of the games’ on-site staff; not outright dispensable, but ultimately replaceable when the time calls for it. Until then, one is to be compliant with the six rules. A misstep could cost you your contract, and for a Recruiter, it is equivalent to his life.
So when a loose thread and a detective too nosy for his own good put it at risk, the most natural thing to do is whatever it takes to put an end to the burden. Even if it means becoming entangled in a long-winded lie with the detective; he will cut it off eventually. He has to. Because Recruiters don't wonder, they don't linger, and most of all-- they don't exist to be remembered.
Even if all they do is wait for an echo back, things like a long-held breath finally released, like someone returning after a long wait.

The Recruiter’s demure smile stretches into a wide grin.
