    "What."

    "I'd be hard pressed to tell you exactly what it wants," Maomao says. "It could be our body heat, or the plant itself could be sensitive to something released only during sex–"

    "What."

    "--but based on the fact that there's no animal or human corpses in here, I imagine it's going to let us go once it's had a meal."

    "Are you saying," Jinshi says, very carefully, "that the plant wants us to–"

    "Don't finish that sentence, sir," Maomao says, holding up a hand. "I don't know if the plant realizes it has two people."

    Another day, another tea time where Lady Gyokuyou and Master Jinshi were playing the "return/borrow" game over Maomao like she was a merely a tool being loaned between houses.

    Normally she would simply let their words wash over her.

    Normally she could handle it.

    But today was not normal, and everyone, everyone, had a limit.

    And as the conversation hit the fifteen minute mark, Maomao hit hers.
