"They've always been a menace, even when my husband were still alive." Magdalena scoffs, unimpressed, but Hans's spirits are not so easily dampened.
The sound of his palms slapping his noble thighs punctuate his exclamation. "Nonsense! I think it's marvellous. Music and room to dance without making a spectacle of yourself."

Summary
A sword, he can handle. Cold steel, heavy, growing lighter. Easier and easier to bear. Slowly, he puts his hand on Hans’s wrist, his fingers closing around him. Soft, yielding. He still doesn’t quite know how to wield him. Nothing like the blunt touch of steel, the certainty of it.
He sees Hans through the echoes of the red that touch the edges of his vision when he’s killing, and when he’s not. As though the blood he spills stains his periphery more and more every time.
