“You’re not supposed to— you can’t be here,” Julia whispers, her voice is barely audible over the night’s gentle breeze.
“Yeah, well, I’m not supposed to do a lot of things,” MK grunts as she hangs from the balcony, her fingers tightly gripping the ledge. Was this a reckless idea? Very much so. Was she going to turn back? Not a chance.
Julia’s heart pounds, arguably harder than it ever has before, as she watches MK pull herself up, now standing on the opposite side of the handrail. “No, you don’t understand. I can’t— We can’t—“ Julia’s voice falters, her gaze locked with MK’s, “MK, my father could have you beheaded—“
“I would face a thousand blades if it meant a moment with you,” the rasp in her voice sends a shiver down Julia’s spine. “I’d defy kingdoms, religions, and everything in between for a chance at something real with you. Even if it means courting death itself.”
Julia keeps breathing. It’s not loud, but it’s so much more than what she’s grown used to. She ultimately stops breathing when she hears the words leave MKs mouth.
“If kissing you is a sin, maybe I don’t want to go to heaven.”
