Summary
Aaron rinses the shampoo out of his hair, grabbing the loofa to lather up his body in shower gel. Robert rests his forehead on Aaron’s shoulder, letting his hands mindlessly run up and down Aaron’s torso as Aaron washes him.
Aaron is bigger now than when Robert went to prison, with a rounder belly and fluffier cheeks. Robert hadn’t thought it was possible for Aaron to get any more beautiful than he already was, but seeing this new body up close - the shape and size of it, the strong muscle still detectable underneath the fat - had proven him wrong. Maybe it’s the fact that Robert had spent six years longing for him, or maybe the mental images he’d kept of him could never measure up to the real thing, or maybe he’d had a thing for bears all along - either way, Aaron was more gorgeous now than he had ever been, and Robert gets to touch him, which makes him the luckiest man alive.

Despite that, though, there were still parts of him that lingered on men, made his heart skip a beat when a hand stayed put just too long, suggestive eyes knotting his insides. But those moments had been fleeting, gone as fast as they came, which made them easy to ignore.
This time, he couldn’t ignore it. Not when he could feel Robert growing hard against his back and Aaron was looking at him with dark eyes, like a predator ready to pounce on its prey.

Aaron clenches his fists, strides from the door to stand between Robert’s legs. He’s looking down on him and it’s thrilling, having Robert below him, completely at his mercy.
“You wanna wind your neck in,” he advises, words barely a hiss between grinding teeth. “Because if I started on you, I don’t think I’d ever stop.”
Robert’s hands come up to grip the backs of Aaron’s thighs, pulling him in closer until his knees knock against the side of the bed. “Maybe I wouldn’t want you to,” Robert challenges because apparently he’s got some sort of death wish.

“Oh, you definitely did.” Robert hooks his foot around Aaron’s calf and drags him over until there’s no space left between them. “But the worst thing,” he starts, hot breath fanning across Aaron’s cheek, “is that I didn’t get to see it.”
He surges forwards, almost knocks their foreheads together in his desperation to feel Aaron’s lips up against his, to thrust his tongue so deep into his mouth that he might be entirely consumed by this version of Aaron who lies and manipulates and makes Robert’s toes curl.

Summary
Afterwards, Robert sags against the wall, grinning and panting, and says, “What is it with us and barns, ay?”
And he laughs. And Aaron looks at him, and it’s like the first time all over again. It’s like every time after that too. The flash of his teeth. The way his hair falls over his forehead. There’s a sheen to his skin from the sweat they’d worked up, freckles pale where they’re hidden under clothes, but Aaron can see them because he knows where to look. He could map each of them out blindfolded, even after all this time.
“What are you looking at me like that for?” Robert asks after a minute. His thighs are littered with red marks, Aaron’s handiwork. Some of them are sure to bruise. At least he won’t have to hide them this time around.
“I’ve missed you,” Aaron says in place of what he really means. But Robert’s grin turns soft, and Aaron is reminded abruptly that Robert isn’t John. Lying is pointless here.
At least Robert has the decency to not call him out on it.
“I’m right here,” Robert says instead. Somehow it’s worse.
You were here before, Aaron wants to say. And then you left.
Aaron and Robert start an affair. Again.

Robert’s heart shuddered to an almighty stop in his chest. Aaron was hardly a passive character, in bed, but he tended to be happy to let Robert take the lead, never pushing too far. Robert wasn’t sure if that was because of the lingering ghost of their affair – or if it was because Aaron was just horrendously perceptive, and had realised that Robert wasn’t entirely comfortable with being out of control. Maybe it was all of the above.
