Honestly, I’m not sure what else to write. I guess I just wanted to talk to you. I think I miss you guys. The only people I talk to here are Uncle and a staff that’s terrified of me. Is it strange to say I miss before? When we were all together? I know that’s terrible to say– we were at the height of the war and fighting for our lives. Sorry, I don’t know what I’m saying anymore. Should probably try to rest some more. This wasn’t much of a letter, but I hope you write back anyway.

Summary
Sokka knows that nothing between them can be out in the open. Zuko is still the Fire Lord - his position is too precarious to allow any scandal to creep in. Sometimes Sokka dreams that they've run away together, that it doesn't matter who they are anymore, and when he wakes and remembers the truth he lies there watching Zuko's sleeping face, soft in a way it never is when Zuko is awake, and wishes with all his heart that it doesn't have to end this way.
This is how you love someone untouchable; this is how it falls apart.

The Fire Nation offers Prince Zuko’s hand.
The Water Tribes offer Princess Yue’s.

Zuko chokes on his own spit.
