Summary
Aside from Soobin at his side and Kai hovering silently near the side door, there was only one other person in the room. He was so handsome that Beomgyu had to hold in a whimper; luminous eyes, a tall nose, and a cat-like mouth that curled up towards the corners. He was wearing silk. The fabric draped over his body in a way that emphasized his narrow waist and broad shoulders, trousers tapering towards surprisingly dainty ankles.
“Prince Beomgyu,” he said, voice rich and warm. He bowed deeply, showing an incredible amount of respect considering that they were of equal status, and even stepped forwards to take Beomgyu’s hand. The moment his lips touched Beomgyu’s skin he thought that he might pass out. “Prince Yeonjun of the Summer Kingdom–“
“Yes.” Beomgyu’s mouth was moving without his permission, startling his suitor into silence. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”
The man’s face went slack with something like surprise, lashes fluttering the slightest amount as he blinked. Beside him, Beomgyu heard Soobin gasp and then smack his face into his palm.
“Um, sir…” The man swallowed, Beomgyu’s eyes following the motion of his Adam’s apple as it bobbed in his throat. “I’m not Prince Yeonjun. I’m just his messenger.”

Beomgyu bit his bottom lip. He was on the verge of cackling. “You looked like you were about to piss your pants, standing in front of that big crowd. You were frightened.”
“A king does not get frightened,” Taehyun said through gritted teeth.
“Everyone gets frightened. I do too, when I enter a battlefield, knowing the tragedies that lie ahead,” Beomgyu murmured. “Please reconsider my offer.”
Beomgyu was made to love Taehyun, even if they were on opposing sides of the battlefield.

For a cold second, Beomgyu could almost laugh. He could give a bitter, frustrated chuckle at the taunting words. Instead, he felt the paper fold in under his fingers, unknowingly tightening his grip on the photo as his blood seemed to itch under his skin.
He took immense pride in knowing he was the finest detective they could have on the job, so why did this one criminal keep slipping out from under his fingers?
Work with him instead of against him, the captain had told him. How could he put their tangled history behind him for the sake of the case?

The ones even the other immortals are scared of, the ones that humans spend their whole miserable lives praying will go away. That includes you, now, I guess. Are you really that unpopular lately?”
