    Summary

“What are you doing?” Claude asks, painstakingly pushing himself into a seated position to stare at him in disbelief.

“I'm swearing fealty to you,” Felix says, placing the sword in front of him on the stone floor. The steel is no longer stained by blood, reflecting the glow of the oil lamp bathing the room in yellow light. "I was raised for the task of protecting royalty. There is nobody better suited for it than me. I vow to serve as your shield until your goal has been accomplished. Not because it's my duty or because it's what's expected of me, but because this is the purpose I'm choosing for myself."
