Summary
“I had a pretty good teacher,” Chris says, shrugging. “Not you,” he adds quickly, but not meanly. Eddie pretends to be wounded regardless, clutching a hand to his heart.
“Your abuela, then?” Eddie asks. Though he has his doubts about his mother's cooking, he's pretty sure she can pull off meatballs at least. If Eddie can do it...
“I meant Buck,” Chris says, interrupting that train of thought.
Or, Eddie leaves for Texas and everybody copes with food in one way or another.

Summary
Christmas was weird for Gyro.
It wasn’t that it was such an awful time of year, or even that he hated the spirit or decorations or music. It was more that he didn’t feel like he fit into the world the way it existed in December.

Summary
‘He’s not my other dad, he’s just Buck.'
Although, there has been a vibe since they got back from El Paso and with them all living together, Dad and Buck hovering and circling around each other in a way that’s new. They’ve been sharing the bedroom at home and leaving the door ajar, which Chris feels is needlessly pointed, like he’s the parent and they’re the teenagers proving they’re not getting up to anything. Chris’s whole existence indicates his Dad’s track record on Getting Up To Things. Not that he wants to think about that. It's just. He really hates the idea his Dad is keeping stuff from him again. Especially something like this. Something that will change everything.

Summary
In 2022, Hen and Karen made a bet. By 2024, that bet had gotten somewhat out of control. Now it’s 2025, Bobby is dead, Buck is apartment hunting, and Eddie finds a list of names and dates in Hen’s locker.
Oh, and there's a backup on the 10. Again.

Or: betting on when your friends will realize they're in love is a lot less funny when one of them already knows.

Summary
He plops down on the couch again, sets his elbows on his knees, and looks Eddie in the eye. “Okay. Soooo,” he says. “You’re asking me to marry you.”
“Yes,” Eddie says.
“On a Wednesday,” Buck says.
“Yep.”
“As a friend.”
Eddie’s nose scrunches. “Ye-ep. Just about covers it.”
“Why?”

Summary
When he looked up, Eddie’s eyes were bright, focused. He was a little flushed, and his shoulders were soft but his jaw was set. “I love you,” he said.
“I love you, too, man,” Buck said. “But you know what I mean.”

Summary
“You’re gonna have a good time once you’re there,” Buck continues, and Eddie knows he’s right— knows that any time spent with Hen is enjoyable; that Karen, though he hasn’t hung out with her in this capacity before, is a delight; that he could really use a distraction from the misery that is his life.
Right now, though, Eddie wants to curl into a ball, tuck himself underneath the passenger seat, and decompose right into the Jeep’s recently-refurbished car flooring.
That wouldn’t be fair to Buck, though.
Lately, Eddie’s felt like his entire existence has been unfair to Buck.
Five new things Eddie learns about himself in Christopher’s absence, and one thing he rediscovers.
