“Language,” Watchman scolds. He turns to glare disapprovingly at Dragon Hunter. “This is a house of God.”
The room suddenly goes silent aside from the sound of Watchman’s knife on the cutting board, onions snapping with each cut. It’s both an awkward and comical silence, but it doesn’t last long. “There’s a demon,” Dragon Hunter starts, sounding utterly exasperated. “There’s a demon at our fucking dinner table.”
or: Watchman invites Keyboard over to dinner.

“It’s time,” they mutter in unison. They lock eyes, engaged in a far different kind of battle, one of wits rather than brawn. Norton has to be the winner. In the same second, they glance towards the front door, locked in on what they both know is about to happen.
The bell above the door chimes, signifying an arrival. But this one is important, and the person walking through that door is always right on schedule, never a minute or even one second off. There’s a reason they’re able to set an alarm by it, and even though Norton hates that it’s Orpheus’s device they use, he’s still grateful. That alarm serves as the single bright spot in his entire day.
It represents the time when he walks in.
or: Orpheus and Norton are love rivals, chasing after the same person. Little do they know the love they are chasing for is closer than both think.

Orpheus is currently going insane.
Lately, his days have been nothing but consistent. Monotonous. Every morning, he awakes, alone in a nondescript bedroom. He goes to work immediately, planning future manor games. He reads the same, uneventful books. He continues to write his next novel. At the end of every day, he goes back to sleep, alone in that familiar and plain room.
The most important thing is that he tries to not think about it.
or: After what happens between him and Frederick at the Red Church, Orpheus seems to only have Frederick in his mind.

His heart thuds in his chest, loud and fearful – two things that Orpheus is not. But in this moment, he feels as if the entire manor can hear his panic like steam from a tea kettle, whistling out in warning. He tugs Frederick back far enough that he can see his face, choosing to survey the state of him before concluding that he has reached an untimely expiration. He quickly catalogs several things at once: a damp sheen of sweat across Frederick’s face, matting his bangs to his forehead; his flushed and unnaturally red cheeks; and closed eyes, the familiar dove grey barely visible. All unnatural features for a man who spends a significant amount of his energy appearing perfect.
It is even more unnatural to discover a version of Frederick who does not have his eyes locked on Orpheus.
or: when Frederick falls in Orpheus’s arms, he has no choice but to take care of him. Twice.
