“Oh?” Will says, and it’s definitely teasing now, enough for Mike to feel himself turning warm, all down his neck and to the tips of his own – sadly unpatterned – socks. “Someone?”
“Yeah.” Mike nods. Oh, god. This is fine. “In a very arbitrary sense of the word. Just– people. Someone.”
Mike is approximately ninety-eight percent sure that his feelings are requited. That last two percent, however, has really been throwing him for a loop.

Honestly, Mike doesn't know what he thought being Will Byers' fake-boyfriend would entail, but he definitely didn't think it would involve this many ugly Christmas sweaters.

Jump from a building, maybe. “I mean, we’d all get flustered if Spider-Man carried us in his arms.”
Mike points to him enthusiastically. “Thank you, Lucas.”
Dustin looks between the two of them, his eyes narrowed.
“...Would we?”
“Sure,” Mike concludes. “He’s attractive. That’s not a weird thing to think.”
Will just barely resists the urge to bang his head against the table. He feels Dustin’s eyes glued to his burning face, and sinks even further down his chair.
In which Mike tells Spider-Man that he has a crush on his best friend, and Will jumps to some very wrong conclusions.

Mike brightens, and he’s just a step or two away, now, and Will could reach out and touch him. “I’m glad,” he says, “I was – I was hoping you would.”
“Oh.” Will really wants to kiss him. “Well, I do.”
Mike beams. “Good.”
“Good,” Will echoes, feeling at a loss for what to say, but it doesn’t seem to matter when Mike’s grin only widens, and then his hands are on Will again, like they always seem to be, lately, and Will has no protests when they’re only a few inches away from each other.
Mike has been acting strange, and, if Will didn't know any better, he'd almost think Mike was flirting with him.
Thankfully, he knows better.

Sometimes Will feels like the secret to digging himself out of the wreckage of his childhood is hidden in Mike. There are days when the only thing that can dull the sharp pressure of grief in his ribs is Mike’s presence at his side; steady, thrumming. Will knows the day when he will have to detach himself is coming fast, but here in this basement, where nothing has changed in over a decade, time seems to have come to a screeching halt. It’s just the two of them, sat in the last place they were innocent together.
“Yeah,” Will whispers, “I’m okay.”

Mike turns to roll his eyes at him. “William, baby,” he scoffs, squeezing Will’s hand in his. “It's Valentine’s Day. Don’t be such a buzzkill.”

It shouldn’t be too hard, probably. He’s heard Max make that joke enough times to suspect that there might be some truth in it. After all, Mike has spent this long being oblivious. Surely, he can manage one night more.
Not even an hour later, he finds himself climbing up Will’s bedroom window.
