“What’s so special about me?” Tamsy tilts her head. There’s a lot of favorable qualities about her, but she understands that Zodyl’s interest in her is past vanity.
“You’re not who you pretend to be.”
Well, she guesses the act is up. Good, all that pretending was seriously boring her.
“Yeah?” Tamsy scoffs. “Nobody is ever who they pretend to be.”
She thinks of Rudo. Okay, maybe that’s not true for some people, but her words are objectively valid.
“No, you act like everybody else, but you’re like me. You despise this society, you want to see it destroyed.”

It broke.
The room froze then. Eyes that were locked onto one another had fallen toward the fractured locket scattered across the floor, something thin on the inside possibly.. ripped? Tamsy’s gaze flicked back to Zodyl, who had gone still, frozen in a way that made the seconds stretch too long. He might have dismissed it if the darkening of Zodyl’s eyes hadn’t burned so quietly, or if the tautness in his posture hadn’t made him look almost carved from stone. Each deliberate step the taller man took across the silent kitchen seemed to press into the air itself, heavy and inevitable. Zodyl passed him without a single glance—no flare of the grief or fury he radiated like a polluting smog.
He lowered toward the ground, settled heavy on his knees as hands collected the pieces, and Tamsy only watched with a mix of detachment and confusion, possibly a hint of disconcert. Finally, the smothering silence was broken with a low, strained question that held both accusation and such raw disbelief that Tamsy thought it was his ears failing to process it all.
“..Why?”
