It was kind of ironic how they’d come full circle, Buck thought as he stood in the middle of the truck bay looking over at the locker rooms, where Eddie stood, shirtless, changing out of his uniform into his everyday clothes for what would be the last time.
As if instinctively or by chance, Eddie looked up right that second, his eyes locking with Buck’s through the glass wall, holding his gaze and Buck felt caught - in more ways than one.
"Who the hell is that?” His own voice rang in his ears.
Buck thought it was only fitting that he should know the answer now, right when it was about to be ripped away from him.
“That’s Eddie Diaz, the love of your life.”

Summary
Eddie blamed Frank for all of it.
It was his fault that Eddie now stood in a dimly lit dive bar, drunk patriots filling the scattered tables all around the stage he was standing on, the harsh spotlight aimed on him blinding his eyes, his old, beaten-up guitar strapped to his chest, the microphone by his mouth amplifying his voice as he sang his heart out. He kept his gaze stubbornly focused on the ground before his feet, studying the cracks in the wood, rather than the many eyes he could feel boring into his skin. He was sweating, he could feel the beads gathering in the wrinkles of his forehead, if it was because of the light or his nerves or both, he couldn’t say for sure.

Buck wasn’t dumb. He might not have been the smartest kid in class growing up, he wasn’t the best at maths, but he had a vast knowledge of endless fun facts on various topics, thanks to his late night wikipedia deep dives and the years spent in his early twenties travelling around the country taking an odd job or ten.
So Buck wasn’t dumb by any definition of the word, but sometimes he was a bit oblivious.
There were certain moments in his life that caught him by surprise and looking back had him questioning his intelligence because it had been so obvious to everyone but him. But hindsight was always 20/20.---

Eddie had really done it this time. In the span of a week he’d lost everything he’d ever loved.
It all started that godforsaken afternoon when Kim had knocked on his door - after his confession about her looking exactly like his dead wife and him using her as a replacement for his unresolved feelings, resulting in her being hurt and walking out - and had lured him into a game of pretend, disguised as an opportunity to let go of the past, of his resentment, of all the things he’d never got the say to Shannon. What had possessed her to put on a wig and slip into Shannon’s role, was beyond him.
But he had been hurt and confused, and he was almost certain he’d already lost his mind, so he’d entertained her idea.
This was his last mistake, in a long line of bad decisions he’d made the weeks leading up to this encounter. It had ultimately led to his downfall. And what a spectacular fall it had been.---
or Eddie spends his summer without Christopher, going to therapy, healing, and finding himself somewhere along the way. -

“Holy shit,” Chimney says, grabbing Hen’s arm like he needs to make sure she’s getting this. “So you guys killed our captain?”
“No!” Eddie and Buck say simultaneously.
“We were just…we…,” Buck tries before looking at Eddie for help. Eddie opens his mouth to explain that no, they did not kill their captain but—
“Okay, well, I guess we…,” he says with a grimace. “I guess we kind of killed our captain.”
“Eddie!” Buck snaps.
“What?” Eddie snaps back, throwing his hands up in frustration. “I mean, I don’t think the guy would’ve had a heart attack today if it wasn’t for us.”
