Summary
When her thirteen-year-old son announces he wants to learn how to play chess, successful graphic designer Agatha Harkness expects little more than after-school lessons and a new hobby to keep him busy. What she doesn’t expect is to cross paths with Rio Vidal, self-taught prodigy and future grandmaster, whose brilliance is matched only by her arrogance.
Drawn into Rio’s orbit, stubborn and haughty Agatha finds herself clashing with the other woman’s sharp wit and unshakable confidence. But as their worlds intertwine, spurred by the quiet intensity of the game, the lines between opposition and attraction begin to blur, both of them waiting for the inevitable checkmate.*****
Or: the Chess AU nobody asked for but I wanted to write anyway.

Summary
“Holy. Shit.”
Rio turns, brows raised. “What?”
Alice doesn’t answer, eyes locked on something past the crowd.
“Seriously, what is it?” Rio asks again.
Then Alice grabs her arm hard enough to nearly knock the drink out of her hand and points.
Rio follows with her eyes. And there, maybe twenty feet away, walking through a break in the crowd like some terrifying fashion shark is Agatha freaking Harkness.
“Didn’t you say your boss was straight? Then why does someone who looks exactly like her just happen to be at Pride...with what looks a whole lot like a hot, gorgeous, probably very gay date?”
OR
Rio lies and calls in sick so she can go to Pride on a workday.

Summary
Louis’ spent eight years in this business and it’s cost him more than he can say. His love life, friendships, family relationships, optimism, trust in people, health, and even his happiness, on occasion.
He’s always believed those losses to be worth it because this is what he’s good at. Louis is always one step ahead, always outmaneuvering the competition, always playing chess when everyone around him is playing checkers. Not since his first few years in the business has someone made a move that Louis didn’t anticipate well in advance.
And yet.
With that question, Senator Vines set a trap. The crowd watching knows it, the senators seated on either side of Senator Vines know it, and Louis, sitting there in his perfectly tailored suit and tie and poker face, also knows it.
And he just walked right into it.
Louis is a political lobbyist who chose his career over his personal life a long time ago and has never regretted it. Then he met Harry.
