Greetings from Korea, where the days blend together in a haze of duty, dirt, distance and disgust. The weather here is unpredictable. Some days the sun warms everything enough to take the bite off the chilliest of nights, and others it feels like we may as well be in Antarctica. Sometimes, being here, I feel like I know absolutely nothing… which coincidentally, is also how I feel about Antarctica.

Eventually he nodded. “Yeah. I think we missed a lot.”

Summary
Supper was roast chicken and boiled potatoes, the dinnerware laid out on a cloth with tiny embroidered flowers. Their mother poured water from a pitcher with lemon slices floating in it and lit the oil lamp in the center of the table, even though there was still light coming through the windows.
“Light makes it feel cozy,” she’d always say. “Even when it isn’t.”
BJ didn’t know what that meant, exactly. He always made a mental note to ask but the notes always got lost or tucked away for later.
The front door opened and closed with a loud thud. Their father’s footsteps came slow and solid, as usual. He walked in, hat in one hand, brown coat slung over his shoulder.
“Evening,” he said. His voice was gravelly and flat. Not angry - not yet. Just tired. Always tired.

Summary
If it weren’t for the crushing realization that the war continued on its merry way, it would’ve been a perfect summer day. Untouched sand, smooth and pristine, not scarred or stained like an OR floor where no matter how hard one scrubbed, the blood never fully vanished. No gunfire. No shelling. No gaping belly wounds. No desperate cries for relief or gloves. No tension hanging in the air. Just the steady sound of waves, the warmth of the sun and the quiet isolation of a beach untouched by everything happening beyond the horizon.

Summary
Hawkeye gestured vaguely, defeated, and pushed his hair back. It was significantly silvered. Half a year home, and he still wore the war obviously: grey hair, defensive slouch, the sort of taut thinness that suggested illness or endurance sport. He looked like a person who couldn’t get comfortable. BJ wanted him comfortable with an intensity that ached.
__Wrung out and worse for wear, Hawkeye can't enjoy himself the way he used to. BJ does his best to help him recover his enthusiasm. In the process they find new ways to appreciate each other alongside more corporeal pleasures: sleeping, sex, and of course good food.

Summary
Everyone sees it, everyone treats them like a unit: they’ve become Hawk-and-BJ. Not Hawkeye, not BJ. They’re a package deal, until they’ll inevitably get shipped back to their own — separate — home addresses.
They'll all go their separate ways again after the war. Hawkeye reflects on this late at night (or is it early in the morning?) when he watches BJ sleep and dream of home, Peg's letter clutched to his chest.
