Summary
Silco shifts as if uncomfortable, and Vander doesn’t even have to guess. The room, Vander’s whole place, is unpleasantly warm, the Summer season seeping through into the Undercity, leaving them to slowly but surely boil out of their skin. His eyes continue to trail up, stopping once he reaches Silco’s face. His nose is bleeding, although sluggishly.

But he won’t. Vander can’t go back to sleep. He can pretend to sleep, as he calls it, or rest his body as the others say it is, but he gets too bored too quickly. Even though he could watch Silco for hours, he’d need to at least do something with his hands. Like legos, or knitting. Those are mindless things he enjoys. For now, he settles on slinging an arm over Silco, feeling around for his hand.

The three of them preferred to slack a little bit after eating, before Vander ultimately gets restless again and makes it their problem. Like currently. Silco lounges at the edge of the water, a deeper level on this side of the cave. His arms are crossed under his head as he sways to the music emitted from a crackling radio, watching Vander hold Singed loosely yet close as they do the same.

"And they’re making good progress on shimmer too. Real progress. Despite the probability of him admitting it out loud, Silco feels excited in a way. A hopefulness he thought he had lost long ago, on that night. He tries not to dwell on it too much, as the irony of the situation is not lost on him. It almost seems as if the more of his body wastes away in agony, the more he can start to see a real change, for Zaun. It gnaws at him both mentally and physically."

Nice, warm, comfortable, yet undeniably strong from a lifetime of hard labour. The words are close enough that Vander can feel their presence against his skin, his thigh twitching involuntarily. Silco doesn’t feed from Vander. It’s something Silco tried to make very clear. That, however, does not mean it hasn’t happened. A handful of times only, in truly dire situations. A dire situation like this. At least Vander thinks it is, since Silco had seemed determined to go out and get the first victim he would spot on the street. But not in this state, Vander thinks, he could never in good conscience let Silco go out when the man can’t even stand upright by himself.

"We’ll get mugged before we reach home.” Silco hates getting mugged. Absolutely despises it when all he wants to do is go home and get comfortable. Instead, he more often than not seemed to enjoy fighting for plain fighting’s sake. Brawls in bars, starting arguments in alleys, pushing buttons just to see what happens, those are all fine, great even. All visibly very amusing to Silco. Getting mugged not so much. Vander’s running theory is that it must be some sort of can’t lose a fight if you’re not fighting for anything mentality.

It's only logical that he can't be as involved as he normally would be. But it almost feels like usual. He supposes that's what he finds comfort in. Them."
