"I’m so sorry, Hyunie. Are you okay?”
He wasn’t, they both knew. Hyunjin was positive that even beyond the casts and the bruised fingertips peeking beneath, Felix had seen him sad enough before to know that he was far from okay right now. Felix’s eyes drifted away from his tear-stained face back to the casts, lingering, and Hyunjin’s heart sank as the familiarity of the avoidance added to the heavy, tipping pile.
Instead of waiting or pushing, Felix said, “Jeongin called me this morning asking if you were with me and Chan, and I just… When I heard…”
Hyunjin stared up at him. He wondered whether Felix was going to ask, wondered if he actually wanted him to. He wanted Felix to care. He wanted Felix to ask why he was out so early when he usually didn’t wake up till noon. He wanted Felix to ask where he was going, why he didn’t contact anyone before or after the accident. He wanted Felix to ask the blaring obvious question that he surely had considered since it was something that couldn’t be excused as nothing.
’Why were you walking on the side of the highway at five in the morning? Why were you walking towards oncoming traffic?’
