Summary
There is a story that goes like this:
Upon the death of Patroclus, son of Menoetius, he is sent to Tartarus where he spends several weeks among the shades, moving stones and thinking of the world he left above, and the man who still roams it. It is this man who strikes a bargain with the lord of the dead, and when he does, Patroclus finds himself suddenly in Asphodel without memory of Tartarus. It is in Asphodel he waits, and it is in Asphodel he mourns.
This is not that story. Because in this story, the Lord of the Dead seeks him out first.
