It only took him a moment to realize what it was that he had coughed up, and his heart sank. He didn't need to call the doctor anymore; there was nothing they could do to help, at least nothing he wanted right now. Fugo wadded up the tissue and threw it away and crawled back under his covers, eyes burning as he tried not to think too hard about the little blue petals now resting in his trashcan.
Marigolds, carnations, forget-me-nots, hyacinths, and cyclamens—these are the flowers that would irreparably change Fugo's life from the moment they began to make him cough and pour out of his mouth.
