In the aftermath of the attack from Duvos and with news of the Alliance's quiet preparation for war (or at least battles like the invasion of Sandrock), Trudy and the Civil Corps decide every townsperson must do regular training - sparring, dummy practice, exercise - in order to be prepared for the threats the future might bring. In the desert, it's always better to be overprepared than the alternative.
Qi's not the biggest fan of this new policy. After all, those six hours of required training each week could be time spent furthering the interests of mankind! But Trudy (and more importantly, the builder) won't brook his argument. Though, when the builder offers to train him themselves, he finds himself agreeing anyway. Just to get everyone off his back, of course...
