    Summary

Captain Anderson stood, stiff and creaking in the cold of the cabin, and the Creature lifted his great head and followed the movement with his deep dark eyes. His scarred face shone with frozen tears, lending his visage the look of some strange kind of pottery, broken and then carefully mended with seams of silver.

How good is it, this lie? For he is no spirit of the forest. He is no soldier, wounded and lifted high by noble deeds and bravery in battle. His hands are a soldier’s hands–his feet, those that carried braver men to their deaths. But he is no soldier.

The Creature and his Creator hunt each other from Switzerland all the way to Russia, and across the frozen expanse of the Arctic. Many things come to pass between them, and yet none at all.

Or, love was always there on the outside, looking in.

    Summary

Since losing his sight, the old man has learned that hands can speak. There is a great deal to be learned about a person from the feel of their hands and the way they use them.
The stranger’s hands are freezing - not just cold like he’s been outside without gloves, but as cold as the grave. It’s not a phrase that the old man usually uses, but for some reason it’s the first thing that comes to mind. This man is as cold as the dead.

The blind old man could feel the Creature's scars; what else might he have noticed?
A story from the perspective of the blind man.
