You open the door and see Sebastian standing on your porch, his hand pressed against his bicep. Blood seeps out from between his fingers and he gives you a shaky smile.
"Hey, farmer," he croaks out, "I could use some help."
(Or - Sebastian gets hurt trying to do what you do and you have (need) to patch him up)

It hurts in the silliest of ways because you hadn't mustered up the courage to tell him your potentially-friendship-ruining feelings and therefore had no right to be so upset.
You didn't have the right to have a pit in your stomach or shaking hands and you certainly didn't have the right to feel like you were going to start crying.
(Or - you're upset, Steve won't let it go, and the night sky makes a really good cover for confessions)

The hot swell of shame going up your spine is something you haven't felt in years. It reminds you of being little and having broken something, the feeling of wanting to fix it but not knowing how. You've never been good at playing it cool, everything imbeds itself in you like the roots of a tree.
