“Quit the bullshit.” Mo cut in, rolling his eyes.
“So why were you late to work?” he said, voice teasing.
“It’s none of your business.”
“I’d like to make it my business,” he countered.
“I don’t even know you.”
“You could, my name is He Tian,” he extended a hand.

Summary
From the corner of his eye, She Li sees a black car pull up beside him, hearing the window roll down.
"Get in the fucking car,"
He stops in his tracks hanging his head low as dread sets in from hearing that unmistakable voice. There was no way to avoid this. He was completely fucked.
She Li turns his head, looking beyond his strands of hair hanging in front of his face. And but of course, he's not at all surprised to see him behind the wheel.
He Cheng.

Summary
Something in his peripheral caught his eye and he turned, curious, only to spit the mouthful of juice, spraying his immediate area.
“Guan Shan,” his mother said sharply, shaking her head before tossing him a kitchen towel.
He caught it loosely, had to grab at it twice, still coughing up the liquid lodged in his windpipe. Bracing himself on the counter he pointed, convinced it was too early to be trusting his own eyesight.
“What is he doing here?” he gestured wildly at their kitchen table where He Tian sat.

Summary
Anger fueled by lack of understanding had given him the momentum to fling himself at the other, fists at the ready. Even in the moment, it astonished him how quick his temper could boil over. How far he could drift from reason in seconds. Fists had flown but with no real strength behind them, blows landing dully, arms easily caught up, crossed, body pinned to He Tian’s chest.
“I need you to be rational,” He Tian had murmured in his ear, “you may not understand how serious this is but we don’t have time for games.”

“Look, let’s make a deal: The Humanitarian Club, which I lead, needs a few more volunteers for our Santa’s Workshop at the mall. We desperately need a photographer as our current one recently got sick with the flu and I know one of your electives this year was photography. I’ve seen your work and I’m pretty confident in your ability. You’d just have to take photos of the kids sitting on Santa’s lap.”
“I..” Mo hesitated.
