Summary
After the latest in a series of funding cuts, Anders is faced with the possibility that the free clinic he's dedicated the last three years of his life to running may have to close. Knowing how many people depend on it, including himself, he'll do anything to keep that from happening.
Which is where Hawke comes in. He has the money to help Anders with his problem and all he wants in exchange is Anders' company. Anders just can't for the life of him figure out why.

He kept his focus on the galaxy map pulled up in front of him, scanning for a longer route. "No, you cannot make homemade usable shatter rounds with the liquid nitrogen stores in the cargo bay. Garrus and I already tried."
She snorted. "Why does that not surprise me?" He just grinned to himself in response. "But that wasn’t my idea. I was thinking about our conversations. The ones about you testifying."
"Were those conversations? I seem to remember some signs of arguing."
She waved her hand, brushing his comment aside. "I spent some time thinking about it, and if you're really serious about refusing to testify-"
"Which I am," he interjected.
"Which is stupid," she said quickly, just a smidge louder than him. "Then there's one way I can think of to make sure they won't force you to." Swallowing, she threw out: "You could marry me."

It’s not as if Anders enjoys getting flushed out of Darktown like a fox from ill-fated Orlesian soil, but when the Templars come sniffing around the clinic doorstep, toughing it out seems a foolhardy venture. There’s a time for standing one’s ground, after all, and a time for careering hot-heeled towards Hightown and hoping the ever-elusive scent of rebel mage has faded somewhere behind in the festering chokedamp.
