Summary
“Is that what you felt when I left Kobe for the last time, the grief of losing me?” Keiji asks, his voice in careful contemplation. “Over something you didn’t completely believe in?”
“I did believe in us,” Osamu says. The lamp-post above them momentarily flickers on and off, a cast of shadow blinking in and out across Osamu’s profile. “I never intended to lose you,” he adds quieter.

In which tennis player Akaashi Keiji has his sights set on the Japan Open, but there’s one problem: his ex Miya Osamu. And no matter how he tries, Keiji can’t seem to escape their past relationship.

Summary
As Osamu recounts the next few moments, Keiji barely remembers them, not until the fresh memory of the gift box in his palm. It held a small and golden ring with an inscription on the inside—治. It was all beautiful, the ring finally on Keiji’s finger, Osamu’s hands trailing down to his waist, and then finally their soft lips pressed together.
“I want you in my life forever, Keiji,” Osamu had said quietly.
Vignettes of Osamu and Keiji throughout the changing seasons.

Summary
It’s quiet after that, as Hajime holds Tooru as he falls asleep. He listens to the whirring crickets outside the San Juan apartment, then to Tooru’s eventual breathing. Tooru’s still wearing that golden ring even asleep, its warm metal bleeding into Hajime’s shoulder.
Hajime wishes it could be branded into his skin, a permanent reminder of Tooru’s touch for all the days he’ll be away. Then he’s drifting off too, thinking of all the places he’s been now besides Irvine. Sendai, Buenos Aires, San Juan. And the one person connecting him through all of them: Tooru.
