II could only feel sticks and leaves beneath his bare back, a thin layer of frost biting at his skin. His pajama pants were covered in dirt. When he opened his eyes, he saw tall trees, dozens of them. Moonlight just barely making it through the canopies. A forest. A forest? He had gone to bed in his bed in his shitty little flat in London. How did he end up in the middle of the woods? He was still… so groggy. Maybe this was just another dream. Another one of those weird dreams where he’s floating in a Void and an eerie Voice promises opportunity. He considered just falling back to sleep again. Hoping he’d wake up in his warm bed.
That was before he heard the footsteps. Slow and measured. Approaching.
