“I volunteer as tribute.”
Sasuke’s voice echoed firmly, his sharp eyes fixed on the stage, where the announcer’s surprised face lit up with excitement as she proclaimed his offer for everyone to hear. A volunteer tribute always drew attention, and he knew it; the eyes of the Capitol would be on him. Itachi’s eyes would be on him.
Sasuke thought being a volunteer tribute was already shocking. But he wasn’t prepared for what came next.
Sakura Haruno.
The healer who lived with her parents in the town’s only bakery. The girl who had once saved him from starvation. Her green eyes were wet with fear as she was guided to stand beside him on the grand stage. Sakura was ethereal, someone meant to heal, not to kill. She didn’t belong there.
Two people so young, being sent to a cruel fate.
They said Sakura would die quickly in the arena, while Sasuke drew hopeful whispers and sighs.
