Summary
After coming to terms with the way they feel about each other, Ilya and Shane settle into something more than they'd been before in the sanctuary of Shane's lakeside cottage.
Somewhere in the mist, loons chirp and call to each other, a skittering sound cut through with the long, mournful tones. The sun is up but the sky is grey, turning everything a kind of monochrome in the watery light. The placid mornings are heavenly enough that you’ve chosen the lake’s flat waters to watch this morning over coffee instead of laying in bed watching Shane sleep. It had been a hard decision, but there’s a lot on your mind, and some nagging voice in your head says they’re thoughts you can’t think in Shane’s presence lest your forehead turn to glass and he sees every thought and fancy. You know he can’t, but you know also he’s learning to read you, that your guards are down enough with him that you forget to cover everything in sarcasm and subterfuge. He’d know. If he saw you now with your mouth twisted in a contemplative little squiggle and your coffee going cold in its mug, he’d know that you’re thinking serious thoughts about him.
