    Satoru takes another step forwards, arms spreading wide in excitement, “Yūji-kun! You’re here!”

    “Oh my God,” the child repeats breathlessly, sounding far older than any child his age should sound, unable to tear his eyes away from Satoru. The boy shakes faintly, shock maybe, words a shaky exhale, “it’s really- you’re- you look- this is— oh my God!”

    Annnnd there’s really no doubting it now.

    Clearly those vivid dreams of war, imprisonment and eleven years of growing up is not the dream Satoru had thought it to be since waking up in the infirmary as a seventeen-year-old student, way back before the source of all his problems defected from Jujutsu society.

    He Tian was a name she saw fairly frequently when Guan Shan was in middle school. First on the lists for the top students in the school, then on Guan Shan’s phone screen as the two began keeping in contact, which then moved into notes and letters under their apartment door.

    Eventually even packages and gifts left for her son on their doorstep, or their kitchen table, secretly placed as He Tian was leaving.
