    Toji had been given a reset button. A mulligan. He didn't know why. He didn't know if it was a cruel joke or a clerical error in the afterlife. Maybe he was still in Shibuya, bleeding out, and this was the dying hallucination of a brain starved of oxygen. But the rag was wet in his hand. The floor was hard against his spine. The kid was warm against his leg.

     

    If this was a dream, it was too vivid. If it was a second chance, it was a heavy one.

     

    His gaze returned to the mountain of trash bags. It was a monument to his life: piled up, rotting, ignored, and uselessly stinking up the place. He’d treated his existence like a hand of cards he was waiting to fold.

     

    "Alright," he whispered to the empty, filthy room. "Fine."

    He nearly bit into his tongue, when Usopp once again pushed him into the ground. “Just because you never looked out for the Merry – I won’t let you just leave her!” the other boy growled. “Stop thinking only of yourself!”

    “I’m not-,” Luffy started to reply angrily, hurt by the accusation, but was cut short when Usopp began shaking him.

    “You’re so selfish, Luffy!” he shouted, but there was a desperate edge to his voice. “I thought we were friends! I thought you cared-“

    “I-!"

    “I hate you!”

    (It's been weeks since Usopp and Luffy's fight, the Going Merry is finally being taken apart. Ace and Sabo try to comfort their little brother - when Sabo has an encounter that makes him think that everything may turn out alright after all.)

    “Then why did you say you’re Ace?” Luffy asked, shattering the peace.

    Sabo groaned, throwing his head back and letting it thunk against the wall of their treehouse.

    “Yeah, I wanna know, too,” Ace added. “Are you calling me rizzles?”

    “Believe it or not, this conversation wasn't supposed to have anything to do with you,” Sabo mumbled, his eyes focused on the sky instead of his dumbass brothers.

    Or: Sabo figures out he's asexual and tells his brothers. It goes exactly as well as you'd expect it to go
