“I should go over there,” Harry says suddenly. “Louis looks cold.”
“Yeah, sure, you should go over there,” Niall says dryly. “God forbid you let Louis finish a conversation with an alpha who looks remotely interested in him.”
Harry rolls his eyes, refusing to let his cheeks heat under Niall’s watchful gaze.
“I don’t– whatever you think it is I’m doing, I’m not. You’re talking complete shit right now.”
There’s a possibility that Niall is spot on. But what’s some mild gaslighting among friends?

OR - Harry doesn’t do relationships. He has a perfectly enjoyable friends-with-benefits agreement with a perfectly lovely omega, and he doesn’t see the need to change that anytime soon. The small fact that Louis giving his attention to another alpha makes Harry want to put his head through a wall isn’t nearly as much of an issue as everyone’s making it out to be.

“Of course it’s been one-sided. If anything was going on between H and I, I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t be pining for him from a distance like a loser,” Louis replies in annoyance.
“It’s just that…you should have seen him, Lou. He wasn’t himself. The way he went after those rogues...it was gruesome,” Oli says slowly before shivering. “Not to mention the 180 he did when he carried you after you passed out. He went from acting as intimidating, all-powerful alpha Harry Styles to gently cradling your deadweight body as if you were made of glass.”
Or: Louis is a human living in the Styles' wolf pack who can't stop getting into trouble, and Harry is the soon-to-be alpha who thinks keeping Louis at arm's length is the safest option.

Summary
Louis’ own heartbeat picks up, eyes widening right as Dr. Zoyansky hits a button and the unsteady pattern of thumps echoes into the room. His breathing hitches, eyes watering as the rhythm seeps into his insides and reverberates in his mind. A heartbeat.
He doesn’t register the tears at first, eyes fixed to the screen and vision blurring.
The situation seems insane. Here he is, twenty-four years old, sitting in the examination chair and listening to the heartbeat of his future child, clutching the worn material of his changing gown with pale fingers, one of which is weighed down by a gaudy engagement ring.
And most noticeably - he’s entirely alone. It’s just him in the room with his doctor, experiencing one of the most groundbreaking, life-changing moments of his entire life and he’s all alone.
