    Summary

“First mate, she’ll perish soon enough.”

Farhana looked back at her sister, her eyes squinting with a question, lingering in her gaze. There was a long silence, and a tense atmosphere surrounded them, almost as if it was enveloping them. The first mate lost her patience quickly.

    “Out with it, sister.”

    “No air.”

    “She has water.”

    “But no air.”

    Summary

"Nothing to be sorry for, kit," she nodded, while still holding up Kou's frame, even though they didn't need it anymore. There were a couple of moments of silence in which they stared at each other before the woman talked again, "You're cute."

Kou's eyes widened in surprise, feeling a blush blossoming on their cheeks.

"Oh," they said intelligently, before shaking out of their stupor, "Thank you," they amended, with a soft and insecure smile as they slowly detached from the red-eyed woman and looked down at their feet.

"So hey," she said, taking Kou's attention once again, "do you mind getting a drink?"

    Summary

She looked younger then, much more like her age, instead of a woman who had to deal with the world's cruelty far too early in life.

"Oh my, she's a long way from suburban town, long way, really long way from suburbia." Aiden knew these words all too well. Alyssa and they used to listen to this song when they knew their patrolling was going to end late, and they had a chance at watching the sunrise in this unrelenting city.

It was comforting, in its own way.

    Summary

Aishwarya usually came here to study, whether it was with her sisters or with her friends; today, nobody was accompanying her. In its own way, she labelled this day as calm. Even with the rain, even if she did wet one of her textbooks, even if today was the perfect day to be labelled as horrible, Aishwarya couldn't help but notice the placid ambience there was in the coffee shop. It was peaceful, not many people were there, and the ones present talked in hushed tones, almost as if they didn't want to break the wonderful bubble created against the rumbling thunderstorm outside. A little haven against the mean and cold rain.

It should've warmed her, but the sight of the woman at the corner of the shop made her feel cold still, like the chill had crawled up in her ribcage and refused to move away.

When her order arrived, she didn't immediately drink it; instead, she played with the cup, gyrating it and making the liquid inside swirl.

    Why did Aishwarya feel homesick?

    Summary

She knew what was waiting for her the next day; however, she didn't prepare herself mentally for how annoying this was going to be.

Aoife didn't feel anything but pure, unbridled hatred for Margot, but only the sight of that wretched woman, being all over the substitute, like she was a hyena sizing up her new prey, was making her blood boil in her veins.

What did this new woman want from her target, anyway? Margot was good for nothing; the only thing she was adept at was doing her job poorly and making Aoife's life a living hell. She needed to kill her, but she couldn't, now that this substitute was present.

Margot deserved to have her blood drained like a pig and then let her own kind eat the remaining, sick flesh. Aoife couldn't do any of that if this… Goody-two-shoes was in her way.

At least, that's what she told herself.

Too bad the new woman was polite; Aoife hated to kill people who knew their manners.

    Summary

"Hendricks," Aiden's eyes quickly rose from their notebook, meeting with the gaze of the woman who called out for them.

"Yes, ma'am?" They asked in turn. Miss Nichols wasn't old, or at least, they didn't think so. On the contrary, she was rather young to be a professor at Empire State University; yet, it could've been due to stress or her genes, some streaks of grey were starting to appear in her beautiful, dark, and wavy hair. Aiden always loved how they flowed with the rest of her strands, creating almost a crown over her head.

"Pan, your brother, hasn't been present in my lessons for a long while now. Mind telling me if he might need any help?" Aiden didn't immediately digest the whole sentence. No, in fact, they were going to reply that Jax had caught a cold — was finishing up a mission — and was now trying to catch up with the missed lessons gradually. It was only a split second later that their brain finally realised what the teacher had said to them.

"Brother?" They squawked, making the professor tilt her head to the side in question.

Or 4 times Aiden and Jax behaved like siblings + 1 in which Aiden finally admits it.

    Summary

They hadn't even arrived at the building yet, and they could already hear the destruction that the rampaging Rhino was causing. Even with reinforcements, not even riot-gear cops could do anything but pray that they wouldn’t be rammed into and die.

They felt them before they could see them: a flash of colour streaked past their vision. If Aiden didn’t know any better, the lack of sleep was making them hallucinate. Aiden was honestly in hot shit if they were at that point — but no, fortunately enough, they weren’t hallucinating. It was just the big… Cyan alien… Trying to destroy the bulletproof glass of Rhino’s helmet.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake, you have to be kidding me,” The vulpine hero grumbled under their breath. They desperately grasped their hood. Anxiety clawed its way up their chest, and they let out a desperate whine. “A symbiote and a supervillain, as if my day wasn’t already going to shit.”

    Summary

Finally, after thinking about it, she crouched down and reached out with a hand to the white kitten, who smelled her fingers and then pushed its head against them, eagerly. That was enough for her to reach out and snatch the cat from the ground. She expected the little thing to at least put up a fight, however, it did nothing but purr louder, cuddling up to her happily as she stood still, on the sidewalk. Everyone around her was continuing to live their life, walking around her. To her though, the time stopped for a couple of seconds, leaving her to inspect at the fur ball in her hold. The cat was extremely similar to Aishwarya, in the way it behaved and nuzzled against her.
Yeah, she was bringing this little thing with her home.

    Summary

At first, Bayani only scoffed, shaking her head at the question, before she digested the words that Lilavati said and, scandalised, she exclaimed in the woman’s mind: “Excuse you?!”

Bayani recoiled with a thunderous roar and lowered her head to face the diplomat menacingly, the scales on her body bristling at the question.

“I asked if you ever thought to take the dominant role while you’re having sex with Viha.”

A couple of beats passed, the atmosphere changed immediately to something akin to an elastic band ready to snap at any moment. Bayani’s pupils were now two thin slits, barely cutting through the red of her irises, as her chest rumbled with a growl.

“Who the fuck do you think you’re talkin’ to?”

Lilavati laughed at the angry response of the dragon, delighted.

    “Ow… Did I perhaps strike a nerve?”

“If you don’t take ya scrawny ass back into the palace, I’ll make sure to snap you in half like a twig.”

Lilavati slowly backed away, strolling calmly as she said: “Just know, if you need some tips, you know who to ask to… Since your girlfriend seems to enjoy dominance in bed a lot…”

    Summary

This was Viha’s limbo, in a way; her attempts seemed futile and, if she had to be honest, she was kind of glad that Bayani didn’t notice. She didn’t want to risk an entire precious friendship only because of her own feelings, plus, her method of showing the latter was probably rather incomprehensible by definition: she memorised every detail that she could about the woman, every single aspect of Bayani was engraved in the tigress’ mind as she carefully made sure to adapt her own already rigid schedule to the one of the dragon.
She didn’t know how to express her feelings if not in this warped way, this was all she knew how to do since she felt the warmth of the sun on her skin; control over the things in her life was essential for her to continue to live in a, somewhat, peaceful way.

    Summary

Silent like the fresh breeze of spring and beautiful like a blooming Sakura.
That's how they’ve described the lady in their way.
A kind yet sharp face, accompanied by ashen blue eyes; irises home to vertical slits for pupils.
Her shadow was the one of an animal.
    A vivacious fox.
Her gaze was pointed to her Patron Tsukuyomi, but her body was still facing the potent Amaterasu, shining bright behind the flowing black river. Its waters overflowing with joyous life.
    A wanderess.
A predator waiting patiently for a prey to have the misfortune of crossing her path.
The writer knew what the harsh whispers said about Kitsunes, describing them as vicious and clever killers, insatiable.
And yet, the only ones who actually ever saw a Kitsune were the hermits in the mountains, the loners in the lost cottages of the Spirit Woods.
Wise people are closed out from society.
    And somehow they still lived.
